THE NEW NEWS ON COFFEE DRINKING. IS IT REALLY BAD FOR YOU?

It may surprise you to find out that coffee, while it has some potential health hazards, can actually be good for you. Recent research reveals that coffee may provide several therapeutic benefits. Researchers say that, consumed in moderation, coffee can help improve mental performance, boost energy, relieve asthma and hay fever, prevent cavities, and elevate one’s mood. Of course, moderation is the key word. Heavy coffee consumption has been linked to heart disease, and pregnant women have been advised to cut out or cut down on caffeine, but most experts agree that moderate coffee drinking can provide health benefits.

The recommended “allotment” for coffee drinkers is two cups a day— one in the morning and one in late afternoon. This seems to be the best amount to help you stay alert and concentrated, help keep you in a good mood, and give you a boost of energy. Heavy coffee consumption—five cups or more a day—can lead to health problems, and you shouldn’t drink coffee at night if you want to get a good night’s sleep.

Suprise! Caffeine Can Get Rid Of A Headache – Or Give You One

In many cases the caffeine in coffee, cola, or several popular over-the-counter painkillers will ease the pain of a headache. The caffeine stops pain by constricting dilated blood vessels in the head and by speeding the absorption of other painkilling medications in the stomach. But all that doesn’t mean that the more caffeine you intake the fewer headaches you’ll get.

If your daily caffeine intake exceeds 500 milligrams—the equivalent of five cups of brewed coffee or eight cans of cola—you’re likely to experience caffeine-rebound headaches. These caffeine headaches occur whenever the caffeine consumption schedule is disrupted—such as when a coffee drinker sleeps later than usual. Many people try to “treat” such headaches by having another cup of coffee. The most effective way of getting rid of these headaches is to avoid caffeine entirely.
